Under Armour All-America Game Workout Notes
EVANSTON, Ill.—This year’s Under Armour All-Americans participated in a workout for scouts at Northwestern on Friday. Players took an infield/outfield session, then batting practice before a home run derby qualifier leading up to Saturday’s game at Wrigley Field.
The Under Armour All-America Game, powered by Baseball Factory, will take place at 8 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on MLB.com.
Here’s a breakdown of a few standouts from Friday’s workout.
Raynel Delgado | INF | Calvary Christian Academy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.)
Delgado, a Florida International recruit, showed smooth actions in the infield to go along with above-average arm strength. He threw accurately from different angles and has the tools to be a valuable defensive infielder.
Delgado was even more impressive offensively; he’s a natural righthanded hitter, but that wasn’t evident before talking to him. From the right side, Delgado showed strong, loose wrists and hit sharp, low line drives all over the field. He was equally impressive from the left side, pulling screaming line drives and showing power up the middle, one-hopping the batter’s eye in center field.
Jordan Groshans | INF | Magnolia (Texas) High
Groshans is one of the more exciting all-around prospects in this year’s class. Taking ground balls at shortstop, he showed above-average to plus arm strength during the workout.
Groshans has a leg kick to get his swing started. He has strength and balance to go along with fluid hands. Groshans showed easy power, driving the ball with authority to his pull side. Groshans is committed to Kansas, where his brother Jaxx Groshans is a rising sophomore.
Jarred Kelenic | OF | Waukesha (Wisc.) West High
Kelenic’s home town is approximately two hours from Wrigley Field, and he’s likely to have a large crowd of fans at Saturday’s game. In the workout, Kelenic showed above average arm strength and excellent accuracy throwing from the outfield.
Kelenic had arguably the most impressive batting practice of the day, using the whole field and showing excellent timing and barrel awareness. Kelenic also has above-average power potential. He’s committed to Louisville, but could be a top draft pick in 2018.
Nolan Gorman | 3B | Sandra Day O’Connor High (Glendale, Ariz.)
Gorman showed above average arm strength at third base, then had one of the more impressive batting practices of the day. He showed a compact stroke and explosive bat speed with his lefthanded swing. Gorman hit one of the longest home runs of the day, pulling one ball off the top of the building beyond the right field wall. Gorman is committed to Arizona.
Nander De Sedas | SS | Montverde (Fla.) Academy
De Sedas is one of the best all-around prospects in the 2018 draft class. Originally from Panama, De Sedas moved to Florida with his family in 2015, choosing to finish high school in the United States rather than pursue signing as an international free agent.
In the infield, De Sedas showed plus arm strength and smooth actions, surrounding the ball well and putting himself in good throwing positions. De Sedas is a switch-hitter, more natural from the right side. He showed plus raw power potential in batting practice, with a knack for finding the barrel and driving the ball to his pull-side. He’s also got some potential batting lefthanded, something he says he only picked up about a year ago. De Sedas is committed to Florida State.
