UMass Hires Matt Reynolds As Head Coach
Massachusetts announced Friday it has hired Matt Reynolds to be its head coach. Reynolds comes to UMass, his alma mater, after spending the past three seasons as head coach at Washington College (Md.), a Division III school.
Reynolds takes over the program from Mike Stone, who retired last week following his 30th season leading the Minutemen.
“UMass is in my blood,” Reynolds said in a statement. “I am humbled and honored to take the reins, particularly following the retirement of a man that has given so much to UMass baseball, to me, and to countless other alumni, coach Mike Stone.”
Reynolds played at UMass from 2003-04 after transferring from Maine, earning team MVP honors as a senior in 2004. He remained in Amherst for the next three seasons as a graduate assistant under Stone. He was an assistant coach for seven seasons at Navy before getting his first head coaching job at Washington College in July 2014.
Reynolds went 59-50-1 in three seasons at Washington College. The Shoremen were 15-23 this spring.
At UMass, Reynolds inherits a team that went 15-32 this spring. The Minutemen finished 11th in the Atlantic-10 Conference.
