It was a bit of an uneven weekend for the Hurricanes in Durham, where all three of their games with Duke were blowouts. They gave up double-digit runs for just the second time all season in Saturday’s loss but bounced back in the rubber game, led by Danny Garcia’s seven shutout innings and a three-run homer from Zack Collins. The end result is their seventh straight series win, and they remain alone in first place overall in the ACC.

A.J. Puk returned to the rotation Thursday and struck out nine over five innings, while Peter Alonso led the way offensively, hitting .438 on the week.

In all, they piled up 30 runs on 47 base hits against Mississippi State, and they were especially hot late, scoring 15 of their 30 runs in the eighth and ninth innings. Going back to the UGa. series, A&M has scored double-digit runs in five straight conference games for the first time since 1987.

Mississippi State came in flying high after winning a series at then-No. 1 Florida, only to be humbled by Texas A&M, which bludgeoned MSU’s normally stout pitching. The Bulldogs’ bullpen, so integral to the Florida series, was hit particularly hard, allowing a total of 19 runs in 16 innings of work. MSU now finds itself in third place in the SEC West behind A&M and Louisiana State—its next SEC opponent.
