We live in the golden age of shortstops. Once a glove-first position where getting league average offense was exceptional, shortstops like Corey Seager, Fernando Tatis Jr., Carlos Correa and Francisco Lindor have followed in Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter’s footsteps. Shortstops have gotten bigger, stronger and now a number of teams are able to rely on their shortstops to both anchor the infield and the lineup.
The current crop of shortstop prospects should ensure that the game remains stocked with two-way players who can hit and field for years to come. Nearly one out of every five players in our latest Top 100 Prospects list is a shortstop, and Wander Franco, CJ Abrams, Marco Luciano, Bobby Witt Jr. and Austin Martin offer a great crop of top-end talents.
