Tigers Announce Mize Has Shoulder Inflammation
Tigers righthander Casey Mize, the No. 1 pick in the 2018 draft, is headed to the injured list with what the Tigers describe as minor posterior shoulder inflammation.
Mize was pulled from Thursday’s night start one out into the third inning after he threw a fastball well below his normal velocity. The Tigers announced in a press release that Mize underwent an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) that two doctors agreed showed the minor inflammation.
Mize had posted a 0.92 ERA in 78 innings this season with only 42 hits allowed. He began the season at high Class A Lakeland and was bumped up to Double-A Erie after four starts.
