SIU-Edwardsville Reassigns Stoecklin
Southern Illinois-Edwardsville on Wednesday placed coach Tony Stoecklin on administrative leave for two weeks. When he returns, he will be reassigned to another role in the athletic department.
Assistant coach Danny Jackson has been placed in charge of the Cougars, who are 7-25 this season.
The coaching change was made the day after SIU-Edwardsville defeated Saint Louis, 6-1, to complete a season sweep of the series.
Stoecklin played for SIU-Edwardsville for two seasons and was drafted by the Braves in the 23rd round in 1992. He returned to the school as an assistant coach in 1999 and became head coach in July 2012, taking over for Gary Collins.
Stoecklin led the Cougars to a 64-121 record in three and a half years as coach. They improved each year in the Ohio Valley Conference, peaking at third place with a 19-11 mark last year but are 4-14 in the OVC this season.
Jackson, an Edwardsville native who played at Wichita State under Gene Stephenson, was SIU-Edwardsville’s top assistant and recruiting coordinator. He had been a part of the Cougars coaching staff since July 2010.
