SEE IT: Adbert Alzolay Strikes Out A Pair

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — The Cubs’ system has been thinned by trades—they lost their top two prospects, Eloy Jimenez and Gleyber Torres, to the White Sox and Yankees, respectively, as the headliners in deals for Jose Quintana and Aroldis Chapman.

Even with those subtractions, there’s still some talent ready to bubble. Righthander Adbert Alzolay is at the top of that list. The Venezuelan broke out this year, going 7-4, 2.99 between high Class A Myrtle Beach and Double-A Tennessee. He ranked No. 16 on this year’s Carolina League Top 20 prospects list after whiffing 78 in 81.2 innings with just 65 hits allowed.

In the Fall League, he’s picked up right where he left off in the regular season. He’s whiffed seven over four perfect innings spanning two appearances.

You can see one of those innings, including two strikeouts, above.
