Tom Lipari played collegiate ball at New Orleans, then played five years professionally, in the Padres and Astros organizations as well as in Indy ball. He was a nine-year college coach and then spent seven years scouting for the Cardinals and is the signing scout for Paul DeJong, Mateo Gil, Luken Baker, Steven Gingery, Levi Prater and others.
So to get you ready for every game of the 2022 College World Series, here are scouting reports written as if you were prepping to face all eight teams’ pitchers and hitters. Lipari provides scouting reports for the eight teams in the 2022 College World Series. The breakdowns are written in scout language and are lightly edited for clarity.
For hitters, G/A is a look where they hit the ball on the ground and in the air. Hit type denotes whether they are a contact, gap or power hitter. Time to first is how long they take to go from home to first. Pitch plan is the approach taken to attack the hitter. FPS is first pitch swinging. If yes, it means the hitter generally swings at the first pitch.
