1. San Diego Padres
Top 100 Prospects: 6
Notable Stars: Ethan Salas, Jackson Merrill, Robby Snelling, Dylan Lesko, Drew Thorpe, Leodalis De Vries, Jairo Iriarte, Graham Pauley.
Intrigue Factor: 80
The Padres boast star power on both sides of the ball and Leodalis De Vries’ inclusion ups the intrigue factor. The Padres boast the largest group of Top 100 players. The pitching corps boasts three Top 100 players and a flamethrower in Jairo Iriarte just outside the Top 100.
2. Milwaukee Brewers
Top 100 Prospects: 5
Notable Stars: Jackson Chourio, Jacob Misiorowski, Jeferson Quero, Tyler Black, Robert Gasser, Luis Lara, Brock Wilken, Yophery Rodriguez, Carlos Rodriguez.
Intrigue Factor: 70
The Brewers pull from one of the deepest farm systems in baseball and their roster reflects that. While they have one less Top 100 Prospect than San Diego, they have plenty of talent just outside the list. The prospect of a Chourio, Yophery Rodriguez and Luis Lara outfield makes the Royals vs. Brewers a must-watch game.
3. Seattle Mariners
Top 100 Prospects: 4
Notable Stars: Colt Emerson, Cole Young, Harry Ford, Lazaro Montes, Tyler Locklear, Felnin Celesten, Tai Peete, Jonny Farmelo, Jeter Martinez
Intrigue Factor: 70
The Mariners vs. Padres matchup has the highest concentration of Top 100 prospects and boasts two rosters with plenty of talent outside that group. The Mariners have arguably the most exciting group of young prospects of any team and fans will get their first look at Felnin Celestin and Jeter Martinez. With a core of young players in the lower minors in 2023, the Mariners did well by including all of their top positional players.
4. Baltimore Orioles
Top 100 Prospects: 3
Notable Stars: Jackson Holliday, Samuel Basallo, Coby Mayo, Connor Norby, Enrique Bradfield Jr., Dylan Beavers, Cade Povich.
Intrigue Factor: 60
With the top prospect in baseball and two other top-25 players, the Orioles have the highest concentration of elite talent of any team. They also have notable names just outside the Top 100 in Enrique Bradfield Jr, lefthander Cade Povich, and infielder Connor Norby. It’s not the most loaded roster, but one with the brightest of highlights.
5. New York Yankees
Top 100 Prospects: 4
Notable Stars: Spencer Jones, Roderick Arias, Chase Hampton, Everson Periera, Will Warren, Henry Lalane, George Lombard Jr., Emmanuel Tejeda, Carlos LaGrange.
Intrigue Factor: 70
While the Yankees lack the top-end star power of the Orioles, they certainly bring the intrigue factor with Roderick Arias, Henry Lalane, George Lombard Jr. and Carlos LaGrange included. The Yankees also boast one of the deepest and most talented pitching groups with a roster of positional talent that can hit.
6. St. Louis Cardinals
Top 100 Prospects: 5
Notable Stars: Masyn Winn, Victor Scott II, Tink Hence, Tekoah Roby, Thomas Saggese, Chase Davis, Won-Bin Cho, Gordon Graceffo.
Intrigue Factor: 60
In a contest of ranking the best tools in the breakout series the Cardinals might take home the crown, as they boast Masyn Winn’s 80 throwing arm and Victor Scott’s 80 speed. The lineup and pitching staff both include multiple Top 100 players. While they lack some of the unknown commodities of other clubs they might have the team most likely to provide highlight reel material.
7. Boston Red Sox
Top 100 Prospects: 4
Notable Stars: Marcelo Mayer, Roman Anthony, Kyle Teel, Ceddanne Rafaela, Miguel Bleis, Yoeilin Cespedes, Nazzan Zanetello, Wikelman Gonzalez.
Intrigue Factor: 60
The inclusion of younger teenage talent really ups the intrigue factor, as Cespedes, Bleis and Zanetello all have very limited professional experience. The Red Sox lineup is chock full of talented players but the pitching leaves something to be desired, as both Yordanny Monegro and Luis Perales were not included.
8. Washington Nationals
Top 100 Prospects: 3
Notable Stars: Dylan Crews, James Wood, Brady House, Yohandy Morales, Robert Hassell III, Cristian Vaquero, Jarlin Susana, Travis Sykora, DJ Herz
Intrigue Factor: 70
The Nationals roster is not short on name value as there’s prospects of note up and down the roster. The hitting is unbelievable led by the outfield duo of Dylan Crews and James Wood. Both players have made noise early in camp and rank among the elite positional prospects in the breakout series. The pitching staff is less notable, but Jarlin Susana and 2023 draftee Travis Sykora can bring the firepower. While the Nationals have just three Top 100 prospects in Crews, Wood and Brady House they have several positional prospects of note.
9. Chicago Cubs
Top 100 Prospects: 3
Notable Stars: Cade Horton, Matt Shaw, Owen Caissie, Kevin Alcantara, Jefferson Rojas, Moises Ballesteros, James Triantos.
Intrigue Factor: 55
The Cubs have a strong crop of positional talent that can really slug led by Matt Shaw, Owen Caissie and Kevin Alcantara. Their pitching is shallow after Cade Horton and they lack the complex league talents to up their intrigue factor. There’s lots of talent but a lack of depth other clubs boast. Despite this, the lineup may boast six to seven Top 100-worthy hitters and serious over the fence power. It wouldn’t be a surprise if the Cubs have the highest average exit velocity of any National League team.
10. Colorado Rockies
Top 100 Prospects: 3
Notable Stars: Adael Amador, Chase Dollander, Yanquiel Fernandez, Jordan Beck, Sterlin Thompson, Zac Veen, Benny Montgomery, Sean Sullivan, Hunter Goodman, Cole Carrigg.
Intrigue Factor: 55
While we all wished for the inclusion of Robert Calaz, the Rockies have plenty of star power and an athletic and explosive positional group. The combination of power bats like Fernandez, Beck and Goodman with high-level hit tools like Adael Amador and Sterlin Thompson give the Rockies a potent lineup. With Dollander at the top, the Rockies also have an interesting mix of stuff and slot variance among their staff.
11. Pittsburgh Pirates
Top 100 Prospects: 3
Notable Stars: Paul Skenes, Termarr Johnson, Bubba Chandler, Anthony Solometo, Tsung-Che Cheng, Garret Forester, Jack Brannigan, Mitch Jebb.
Intrigue Factor: 70
The Pirates roster is fairly shallow outside of their Top 100 prospects, but Paul Skenes is a one-man intrigue factor boost. The matchup against the Orioles and No. 1 prospect Jackson Holliday doesn’t hurt either, as their previous matchup was unfortunately not televised. Outside of Skenes, the Pirates pitching corps is deep with Bubba Chandler, lefthander Anthony Solometo and Thomas Harrington. The positional group lacks punch or name value outside of Termarr Johnson, though Mitch Jebb, Jack Brannigan and Garret Forester are all nice players.
12. Minnesota Twins
Top 100 Prospects: 3
Notable Stars: Walker Jenkins, Brooks Lee, Emmanuel Rodriguez, David Festa, Marco Raya, Gabriel Gonzalez, Kala’i Rosario, Austin Martin, Charlee Soto.
Intrigue Factor: 55
The Twins have a nice group of positional prospects led by a trio of Top 100 Prospects in Walker Jenkins, Brooks Lee and Emmanuel Rodriguez. Walker Jenkins is carrying the intrigue factor for the Twins, as he’s one of the buzziest prospects heading into the season. Outside of their Top 100 trio, 2023 MiLB home run leader Yunior Severino and Kala’i Rosario are both capable of doing damage at any point. The Twins pitching is solid but unspectacular with notables Marco Raya, David Festa and 2023 draftee Charlee Soto.
13. New York Mets
Top 100 Prospects: 2
Notable Stars: Jett Williams, Drew Gilbert, Ryan Clifford, Luisangel Acuña, Colin Houck, Jeremy Rodriguez, Alex Ramirez, Blade Tidwell, Kevin Parada.
Intrigue Factor: 60
While the Mets only have two Top 100 Prospects on the roster, it’s a deep group with a handful of players on the periphery of the Top 100. Jett Williams and Drew Gilbert provide star power with well-known names like Alex Ramirez, Kevin Parada, Colin Houck, Luisangel Acuña and others behind them. The pitching lacks depth but there’s plenty of stuff in the mix and a few guys who can light up radar guns.
14. Detroit Tigers
Top 100 Prospects: 2
Notable Stars: Max Clark, Jace Jung, Ty Madden, Kevin McGonigle, Keider Montero, Wilmer Flores, Hao-Yu Lee, Josue Briceno, Dillon Dingler.
Intrigue Factor: 55
This group is headed by 2023 No. 3 overall pick Max Clark, who is an exciting high-energy player capable of making highlight reel plays on both sides of the ball. He’s a one-man intrigue booster. The Tigers boast a second Top 100 hitter in Jace Jung and a pitching staff led by a trio of talented pitching prospect outside the Top 100 in Ty Madden, Keider Montero and Wilmer Flores. This is a strong and talented group, but not deep enough to rank above the middle tier of teams.
15. Los Angeles Dodgers
Top 100 Prospects: 2
Notable Stars: Daulton Rushing, Josue De Paula, Jackson Ferris, Ronan Kopp, Thayron Liranzo, Trey Sweeney, Damon Keith
Intrigue Factor: 55
The Dodgers may lack Top 100 Prospects and stars, but this is as deep of a group as there is with a high intrigue factor driven by young talents like Josue De Paula, Thayron Liranzo, Jackson Ferris and others. As would be expected of the Dodgers, their pitching corps has plenty of firepower and stuff and their hitting has plenty of power and upside.
16. Texas Rangers
Top 100 Prospects: 2
Notable Stars: Sebastian Walcott, Echedry Vargas, Dustin Harris, Jack Leiter, Brock Porter, Emiliano Teodo, Jose Corniell.
Intrigue Factor: 55
The intrigue factor is high for this group despite the exclusion of top prospects Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford. Sebastian Walcott and Echedry Vargas are two of the more exciting young players on breakout rosters. The pitching staff has plenty of name value even if results haven’t always backed their pedigree.
17. Tampa Bay Rays
Top 100 Prospects: 3
Notable Stars: Carson Williams, Xavier Isaac, Brayden Taylor, Dominic Keegan, Adrian Santana.
Intrigue Factor: 50
Without the inclusion of Junior Caminero, the Rays roster takes a hit in terms of intrigue. The pitching is also lacking punch and name value. The roster is heavily carried by their three Top 100 Prospects.
18. Philadelphia Phillies
Top 100 Prospects: 2
Notable Stars: Mick Abel, Justin Crawford, Aidan Miller, Starlyn Caba, Eduardo Tait, Devin Saltiban, Griff McGarry
Intrigue Factor: 60
Including young complex talents like Starlyn Caba and Eduardo Tait really boosts the intrigue factor as these players have had few eyes on them stateside. The rest of the group has star power in Mick Abel, Justin Crawford and Aidan Miller with nice lower-minors talents filling in the roster.
19. Arizona Diamondbacks
Top 100 Prospects: 1
Notable Stars: Jordan Lawlar, Tommy Troy, Druw Jones, Gino Groover, Yu-Min Lin, Jansel Luis, Cristian Mena, Blake Walston, Kristian Robinson,
Intrigue Factor: 55
After falling on his face in his professional debut, Druw Jones looks to begin his comeback tour in the breakout series. Despite just one Top 100 Prospect, the D-Backs boast star power with Jordan Lawlar and Tommy Troy alongside Jones. They also have a strong core of under-the-radar and just outside the Top 100 prospects in Yu-Min Lin, Jansel Luis and Gino Groover to name a few.
20. Cincinnati Reds
Top 100 Prospects: 1
Notable Stars: Rhett Lowder, Ty Floyd, Cam Collier, Carlos Jorge, Edwin Arroyo, Sal Stewart.
Intrigue Factor: 50
This is a solid team with good depth but a lack of high-end star power. The 2023 draftees shine bright with Rhett Lowder and Ty Floyd of notable intrigue. The lineup has some bright spots and highlights the Reds talent and depth in the lower minors.
21. Oakland Athletics
Top 100 Prospects: 1
Notable Stars: Jacob Wilson, Darell Hernaiz, Steven Echavarria, Myles Naylor, Max Muncy, Royber Salinas.
Intrigue Factor: 45
The Athletics have a solid group of players with good depth but lack star power outside 2023 first-rounder Jacob Wilson. The intrigue factor is driven by young pitcher and 2023 draftee Steven Echavarria, who received praise during the handbook process this offseason.
22. Houston Astros
Top 100 Prospects: 1
Notable Stars: Jacob Melton, Luis Baez, Spencer Arrighetti, Zach Dezenzo, Joey Loperfido, Zach Cole, Kenedy Corona.
Intrigue Factor: 45
This team is led by its strong core of outfielders, which include two of the best center field defenders in the minor leagues. The lineup has plenty of power with Melton, Luis Baez, Zach Denzeno and Joey Loperfido with plenty of ability to leave the yard on any pitch. The team lacks star power but it’s an exciting mix of power, speed and athleticism in the lineup with the always sneaky Astros pitching prospect depth.
23. San Francisco Giants
Top 100 Prospects: 1
Notable Stars: Bryce Eldridge, Grant McCray, Walker Martin.
Intrigue Factor: 45
The Combination of Eldridge and Martin provide some excitement, but overall this is a thin group without any headliners among the pitching corps.
24. Miami Marlins
Top 100 Prospects: 1
Notable Stars: Noble Meyer, Thomas White, Jacob Berry
Intrigue Factor: 45
The intrigue factor is carried entirely by the young pitching duo of Noble Meyer and Thomas White. Outside of that tandem, it’s a shallow group for Miami.
25. Chicago White Sox
Top 100 Prospects: 1
Notable Stars: Colson Montgomery, Bryan Ramos, Jacob Gonzalez, Edger Quero.
Intrigue Factor: 40
Analysis: This group is headlined by Montgomery and Ramos with a couple of interesting bats following them. The pitching staff lacks excitement and the exclusion of Noah Schultz doesn’t help.
26. Cleveland Guardians
No. Of Top 100 Prospects: 1
Notable Stars: Chase DeLauter, Jaison Chourio, Alex Clemmey.
Intrigue Factor: 40
This roster is carried by Chase DeLauter and Jackson Chourio’s younger brother Jaison. It’s not a particularly deep or exiting group outside of DeLauter, Chourio and 2023 second rounder Alex Clemmey.
27. Toronto Blue Jays
Top 100 Prospects: 0
Notable Stars: Arjun Nimmala, Addison Barger, Brandon Barriera, Enmanuel Bonilla, Alan Roden, Adam Macko, Yosver Zulueta, Kendry Rojas, Connor Cooke
Intrigue Factor: 40
Without Orelvis Martinez and Ricky Tiedemann, the Blue Jays lack star power on either side of the ball. Arjun Nimmala and Enmanuel Bonilla are the highlights of this otherwise pedestrian group.
28. Kansas City Royals
Top 100 Prospects: 0
Notable Stars: Blake Mitchell, Gavin Cross, Cayden Wallace, Tyler Gentry, Javier Vaz, Blake Wolters, Trevor Werner
Intrigue Factor: 40
As a whole, this is a fairly punchless group. There’s few to no headliners and the most intriguing names are sleepers like Trevor Werner, Javier Vaz and Blake Wolters. First-round pick Blake Mitchell offers some intrigue as a recent Top 10 selection.
29. Los Angeles Angels
Top 100 Prospects: 0
Notable Stars: Nelson Rada, Caden Dana, Kyren Paris.
Intrigue Factor: 40
The intrigue factor is driven by Nelson Rada, but this is a shallow group only clawing its way above the Braves at the bottom of the rankings. Caden Dana and Kyren Paris are interesting players but neither is the type of star power other clubs are lining up. The Angels aggressive promotion of draftees thins out this group even further.
30. Atlanta Braves
Top 100 Prospects: 0
Notable Stars: Ignacio Alvarez, Drake Baldwin, Isaiah Drake.
Intrigue Factor: 20
This is the worst roster in the breakout series as the Braves system is shallow and the team is without both of their Top 100 Prospects in A.J. Smith-Shawver and Hurston Waldrep.
