LONG BEACH—The Rangers beat the Royals 4-2 on the last day of the 2016 Area Code Games for upperclassmen.
Russell Smith impressed for the Rangers, pitching three innings with seven strikeouts. It was the Rangers’ second win at the showcase.
Brody Barnum had three strikeouts over two innings for the Royals. Barnum played outfield and pitched in the showcase.
“My mentality was to throw strikes and let the batters put the ball in play,” Barnum said.
With a preference for hitting, Barnum said that his goal for the summer was to work on getting squared every time he swung the bat.
Isaiah Smith added three hits and one RBI for the Royals, and also had two stolen bases.
