LONG BEACH—The Rangers won their first game at the 2016 Area Code Games, beating the Reds 5-2 to kick off the fourth day of the event on Tuesday.
Trevor Rogers started the game for the Reds and threw 13 straight strikes in the first inning while striking out the side (you can read more on Rogers from Hudson Belinsky here).
Belinsky said Rogers displayed a free and easy delivery with a sinking fastball and a tight breaking ball in his two innings of work.
The Rangers’ Cole Turney went 2-for-3 with a triple in the sixth inning. He scored on a sacrifice fly.
Turney said he hadn’t been getting the pitches he wanted to see in the past three days and decided to be more aggressive at the plate Tuesday. He added that he wanted to improve his approach over the summer.
Bryce Bonnin pitched two scoreless innings for the Rangers and had four strikeouts. David Avitia had two RBIs and two walks for the Reds.
