Prospect Report: Hayden Wesneski Rebounds With Dominant Start

Hayden Wesneski, RHP, Cubs—Wesneski rebounded from the worst start of his young career with his best one on Monday. Six days after allowing five hits, seven runs (two earned) and four walks in 1.1 innings against the Mariners, Wesneski took the mound against the A’s and dominated. The 25-year-old righthander pitched seven innings with five hits and one run allowed, no walks and seven strikeouts to earn his first win of the year. He needed just 90 pitches to complete his seven innings of work and retired 15 batters in a row in a stretch that spanned from the second to the seventh inning.

Josh Jung, 3B, Rangers—Jung hit a three-run homer in the first inning to power the Rangers to a 4-0 win over the Royals on Monday. The 25-year-old rookie got a hanging breaking ball from veteran righthander Jordan Lyles and hammered it 441 feet out to left-center for his third home run of the season. Jung has recorded at least one hit in 12 of his first 15 games to start the season and is tied for the Rangers team lead in both hits and home runs.

Corey Julks, OF, Astros—Julks went 2-for-3 with a double, a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs to lead the Astros to a 9-2 win over the Blue Jays. The 27-year-old rookie hit a two-run double off Kevin Gausman in a seven-run first inning for the Astros and launched a 424-foot home run to left-center in the third inning to extend the Astros commanding lead. Julks’ home run left his bat at 107.2 mph, per Statcast, and his double had a 109.6 mph exit velocity.

Zach Neto, SS, Angels – Neto led off for the Angels and recorded his first career hit Monday. Facing Red Sox righthander Brayan Bello in the second inning, Neto got an elevated 96 mph fastball on the first pitch of the at-bat and dropped it into left field for a single. He later came around to score in the inning on Hunter Renfroe’s RBI groundout and finished 1-for-5 in the Angels 5-4 win.
