At the time of 2016 Baseball America Prospect Pad, Amir Garrett was getting prepared to make his second Futures Game appearance. Less than a year later, he would be making his big league debut.

In the Prospect Pad interview, Garrett, still a starter at the time, had already started to experience the difference between starting and relieving. He told Baseball America about changing his pitching style in shorter stints and letting it loose.

“That’s what I tried to do last year. Going out there and starting a game and going out there and trying to let it loose coming out the bullpen is a whole different scenario. I’m not going to try to do that this year. I’m going to make sure I’m warmed up and I stay nice and loose and relaxed. I’m not going to try to do too much. I’m just going to pitch the way I know how to pitch.”

Also in the interview, Garrett talked about who he wanted to face once he did reach the big leagues. He did not shy away from any big names.

“I’m going for Bryce Harper and Kris Bryant. Being from Las Vegas, I played with those guys and against those guys. I’m looking forward to playing against those guys again.”

SInce making his debut, Garrett has fared decently well against the two star hitters in limited matchups, going a combined 1 for 5 with two strikeouts, although the one hit was a homer from Bryant.
