As we get closer to the 2019 Baseball America Prospect Pad presented by Louisville Slugger, we are taking a look back at some of the interviews in years past.
Our highlighted interview this time around is Pirates RHP Mitch Keller. At the time of the interview, Keller had recently been called up to Triple-A Indianapolis after compiling a 2.72 ERA with 76 strikeouts in 86 innings at Double-A Altoona early in the year.
Coming up through the minors Keller has been known for his fastball. Although his curveball has also been well regarded, as he reached the higher levels of the minor leagues Keller has focused on improving it even more. In his Prospect Pad interview, Keller talked about the adjustments he has tried to make.
“It’s been a really good pitch for me my entire career. Some days you have it better than others. This year has been just trying to have it every day and be more consistent with it. Throw quality pitches with it instead of just get me over pitches,” said Keller.
Keller has continued to use his big fastball and curveball and it lead to him getting first taste of the big leagues this year.
