As we continue our look back at past Baseball America Prospect Pad videos, we highlight our 2017 interview with Dodgers OF Alex Verdugo.
At the time of the interview, Verdugo was mashing in Triple-A Oklahoma City and was just a few months shy of his first big league call up. As Verdugo continued his rise through the minor leagues, he continued to hit. In his Prospect Pad interview, Verdugo talks about his mindset against top tier talent.
“For me I try not to know the pitcher that well or pay attention to their prospect status…I don’t like to build up hype cause once you do that, you are kind of defeated in a since. I like to think I can hit anybody,” Verdugo said.
Coming up through the minor leagues, Verdugo played alongside some future Major League players, one of those being Cody Bellinger. In his Prospect Pad interview, he discussed what it was like seeing his former teammate become an all-star his first season.
“To see Cody get up there and tear it up… it’s amazing. Just to think I’ve been with him since I got drafted. We’ve roomed together, I’m happy for him….you just hope that when you get up there you can do the same thing,” Verdugo said.
Although he did not have the ridiculous start Bellinger had, Verdugo has shown that he can hit big league pitching. This year he has hit .294/.347/.455 for the Dodgers.
