Nationals Top Yankees In Wednesday’s Action

LONG BEACH—The Nationals beat the Yankees 8-7 in the final game for each team of the 2016 Area Code Games. The Nationals ended the showcase with two wins.
Ryan Weathers (Loretto (Tenn.) High) impressed for the Nationals, striking out the side in the bottom of the third inning.
Andrew Papantonis (Delbarton High, Morristown, N.J.) of the Yankees built off his strong showcase, going 2-for-2 with two RBIs, a stolen base, and a run. Trent Vietmeier (Montour High, McKees Rocks, Pa.) pitched two scoreless innings for the Yankees, with two strikeouts and no hits.
The Yankees’ Adam Hall (A.B. Lucas Secondary, London, Ontario) finished the showcase with seven RBIs. He said his focus coming into the Area Code Games was to have consistent at-bats and keep the same approach in the showcase as a regular game.
Hall added that he wanted to improve his defense over the summer.
