LONG BEACH, Calif.—The Nationals beat the Rangers 13-2 in the second game of the 2016 Area Code Games on Saturday.
Christian Robinson (Viera (Fla.) High) hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the third inning to give the Nationals the lead for good. Robinson said his approach was to be aggressive on first pitches. For more on Robinson, here’s Hudson Belinsky’s profile from February.
Tanner Morris (Miller High, Crozet, Va.) added to the lead in a five-run fifth inning with an RBI double. Joseph Perez (Archbishop Edward McCarthy, Pembroke Pines, Fla.) added a two-run homer in the seventh.
LSU commit righthander Levi Kelly (IMG Academy) struck out three batters as the Nationals bullpen didn’t allow a run after the second inning.
“I was going right after guys from pitch one,” Kelly said.
A two-run single by Zachary DeLoach (Hebron High, Lewisville, Texas) in the second inning gave the Rangers a brief 2-1 lead before Robinson’s home run.
