More Than 25% Of Top 100 Prospects Are Currently Injured

Jasson Dominguez debuted in the majors in 2023. His chances of getting back to the big leagues in 2024, though, took a hit with the news his oblique strain is expected to require eight weeks on the injured list.
He has plenty of company. At this moment, over 25% of the Baseball America Top 100 Prospects list is either on the injured list, on a rehab assignment coming back from an injured list stint or have just returned after a lengthy injured list stint. Currently 26 of the Top 100 are inactive or on rehab assignments and another two just returned from IL stints.
Seven of Baseball America’s current Top 11 are either on the IL, or in the case of No. 2 prospect James Wood and No. 7 prospect Walker Jenkins, just off of the IL. There are 11 of the Top 25 prospects who are or were recently ailing and 16 of the Top 50.
No. 1 prospect Paul Skenes, No. 5 prospect Dylan Crews and No. 9 prospect Noah Schultz are the only three Top 10 prospects who have avoided the IL entirely in the first half of the 2024 season.
