MLB.tv’s Quad Box Disappears For Now

MLB.tv, the online offering that allows fans to watch major league games from around the country, has rolled out a new Web player for 2018. The new Web player is HTML-based, which means subscribers no longer need Adobe Flash to view games.

But the rollout of the new Web player also means that some popular features are currently unavailable.

In past years, fans could watch multiple games at once, either by watching one game with a second in a smaller picture-in-picture, two games side by side or the “Quad Box” where four games are visible, each using one-quarter of the screen. With any of the multiple game viewing options, viewers could select which game’s audio they wanted to hear.

With the new player, there are currently no multiple game viewing options, but they are coming. Updates to bring back some of the features of the previous player (and potentially add new ones) are expected to be rolled out throughout the season.
