With Hope released, the fate of the 2013 draft—at least the top of the draft—now rests with Triple-A Omaha third baseman Hunter Dozier, for the Royals traded supplemental first-rounder Sean Manaea (to the Athletics for Ben Zobrist) and second-rounder Cody Reed (to the Reds for Johnny Cueto) last July.

Congratulations to 26-year-old Venezuelan righthander Albert Suarez, who made his major league debut last week in what is his 10th pro season. Signed by the Rays in July 2006, Suarez contended with Tommy John surgery and other maladies early in his career, yet remained on the Tampa Bay prospect radar for years. Granted free agency following the 2014 season, he signed with the Angels and had his finest season in 2015, when he very nearly won the Double-A Texas League pitching triple crown with 11 wins (first), a 2.98 ERA (first) and 121 strikeouts (second). He also led the TL with a .234 opponent average.

Joan Gregorio, a 6-foot-7 Dominican righthander, earned his promotion to Triple-A Sacramento by recording a 2.33 ERA and 30-to-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio in five starts at Double-A Richmond.
