The Diamondbacks signed 32-year-old Dominican lefthander Marlon Arias, who did not play in 2016 but has pitched effectively in the Dominican League this winter. Through 26 games he has recorded 22 strikeouts in 18 innings with just 10 hits and one earned run allowed. Lefthanded batters have gone just 1-for-14. Arias has pitched parts of three seasons in the Mexican League since his release by the Royals in 2012 spring training.

Baltimore Orioles

As a member of the Blue Jays organization in 2016, Jesus Montero hit .317 at Triple-A Buffalo to rank fifth in the International League batting race. That .317 average works out to 70 grade on the 20-80 scale, and he accomplished that despite well below-average speed and mediocre power. The 27-year-old Montero won’t be available for the first 50 games of 2017—unless the Orioles add him to the 40-man roster—because he violated the minor league drug program by failing two tests for a banned stimulant.

The 29-year-old O’Neill owns a career .412 on-base percentage in the minors and bats lefthanded, but he lacks power, speed and physicality. He topped out at Triple-A Memphis with St. Louis.
