The Braves are big players on the minor league free agent market each offseason, and last week they called upon three such signings en masse to fill spots on the major league bench. All three names will be familiar to prospect watchers circa 2009, and all three have amassed more than 2,000 career plate appearances at Triple-A.

Utility-infielder-turned-outfielder Chase d’Arnaud is the youngest of the bunch at 29. He batted 18 times in the majors from 2013 through 2015. Corner outfielder Matt Tuiasosopo and utility infielder Reid Brignac are both 30 and have seen more major league time in recent seasons, particularly the righthanded-hitting Tuiasosopo, who filled a platoon role for the 2013 Tigers, batting 191 times.

The circumstances of Gordon’s injury recall the outfield collision involving Twins top prospect Byron Buxton at Double-A New Britain in 2014 that derailed his season.
