Minor League Transactions
Transactions involving minor league players for the period Sept. 16-29. All transactions conveyed by Major League Baseball.
All the “re-signed” players in this installment chose to re-up with their organization for 2018 rather than test minor league free agency. This year’s minor league free agent class will be determined five days after the World Series ends.

Catcher Michael Perez, the D-backs’ 2011 fifth-round pick out of high school, turned 25 this summer, just in time for his bat to show signs of life at Double-A Jackson. The lefthanded batter hit .279/.365/.424 (career high 130 wRC+) in 80 games and drew praise as the best defensive catcher in Southern League in Best Tools balloting.
Perez re-signed with Arizona rather than test the minor league free agent waters, and he will continue his climb to the big leagues in 2018 at Triple-A Reno.
Atlanta Braves
Traded: OF Connor Joe to Dodgers for international bonus pool money ($500,000)
Added to 40-man roster: C Tony Sanchez
The Braves added $1.75 million in international bonus pool money by trading Connor Joe to the Dodgers and Randy Ventura to the Reds. This despite the fact that Atlanta is forbidden from signing any international amateur for more than $300,000 until the 2018 signing period begins on July 2. At that point they will be subject to a new bonus pool, and their current pool ($6.5 million) will be irrelevant.

The Reds succeeded in sneaking 2013 first-rounder D.J. Peterson through waivers and removing him from the 40-man roster. His minor league contract can be renewed for 2018 and 2019. The Mariners, his drafting team, and White Sox, the first team to claim him on waivers, had previously tried to outright him.

Third baseman Mitch Walding popped a career-high 25 home runs at Double-A Reading to rank fourth in the Eastern League. The 2011 fifth-rounder out of high school has a nice lefthanded swing and is still 25, so he represents nice organizational depth and perhaps more if he can improve on his .236 average.
