While Brewers rookie outfielder Jackson Chourio is thriving in the big leagues, his younger brother is taking the first steps toward doing the same thing one day.

Last fall, outfielder Jaison Chourio checked in at No. 3 on our ranking of the top 20 prospects in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League before earning a bump to Low-A for nine games.

The younger Chourio returned to Lynchburg as a 19-year-old this season and caught evaluators’ eyes in a variety of ways. In Best Tools voting, Carolina League managers chose Chourio in four categories: Best Batting Prospect, Best Strike-Zone Judgment, Best Defensive Outfielder and Most Exciting Player.

With the year Chourio is having, it’s easy to see why he dominated the voting.

Heading toward mid August, he was one of just three teenagers whose seasons have been spent entirely in the full-season minor leagues with more walks (67) than strikeouts (61). His overall strikeout rate was just 16.2%.

Chourio puts the bat on the ball plenty, and the results have been excellent.

The switch-hitting center fielder’s name dots the Carolina League leaderboards in a plethora of categories. Through 89 games, Chourio hit .279/.412/.416 with five home runs and 43 stolen bases.

His .412 on-base percentage, 67 walks, 23 doubles and 43 stolen bases all ranked among the best in the league.

Carolina League managers were uniformly impressed with Chourio’s defense, too. He received all but one of the votes in the category and had committed just two errors all season.

He also had racked up six outfield assists, which helped him earn a vote in the Best Outfield Arm category as well.

All of this makes it easy to see why Chourio is valued so highly in the industry as he has played his way into the Top 100 Prospects.

That should sound familiar. His older  brother Jackson did the same in 2022.
