Jarred Kelenic, Andrew Walling Honored As Top Underclassmen
LONG BEACH—Jarred Kelenic (West High, Waukesha, Wis.) of the White Sox and Athletics lefthander Andrew Walling (Long High, Longview, Wash.) were honored as the outstanding underclass players for the 2016 Area Code Games.
Kelenic finished the showcase with four hits and two RBIs, including a home run that displayed his impressive power.
While honored at receiving the award, Kelenic, a Louisville commit, said that he will continue to work on all aspects of his game and credited his coaches and teammates for making the ACG a memorable event.
Walling, a 6-2 lefty from Washington, struck out nine batters in four innings at the ACG, while displaying a fastball in the upper 80s.
“I appreciated the input from the coaching staff between innings to help with self-corrections,” Walling said, adding that his hard work paid off.
The experience of playing at the ACG motivated Walling to continue to progress as a player, and he looks forward to trying out for the upperclass team in the fall.
