Hunter Greene, Royce Lewis Earn Honors

Two of the top five prospects in this year’s draft class—Hunter Greene and Royce Lewis—have earned recognition for their impressive high school senior seasons.

Greene, the two-way phenom for Notre Dame High (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) was named the MVP of the Mission League for the second time in three years—he also earned the honor as a sophomore in 2015. Through his first 29 games, Greene batted .337/.387/.622 with six home runs. On the mound, he went 3-0 with a 0.96 ERA  and 43 strikeouts and four walks in 28 innings. Greene was officially shut down on the mound on April 27.

Lewis, the explosive shortstop at JSerra High (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) won the Trinity League MVP award for the third consecutive season. Through 30 games, Lewis hit .388/.569/.662 with 24 walks and seven strikeouts. The UC Irvine recruit hit four home runs and stole 23 bases in 26 attempts.

Both players’ teams have been eliminated in California’s Division 1 southern sectional playoffs, though they could have faced each other had both teams reached the semi-finals round.
