As far as top-end prospects are concerned, this is shaping up to be a very good year for the Arizona Fall League.
In all, there are 13 Top 100 Prospects slated to attend the fall prospect league, which is the most since 14 such players took part in 2022.
This year’s list is led by Mariners shortstop Colt Emerson (No. 11 on Baseball America’s current Top 100), Padres catcher Ethan Salas (No. 17), Padres shortstop Leodalis De Vries (No. 31), Giants first baseman Bryce Eldridge (No. 35) and White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery (No. 38).
Since 2021, there have been an average of 11 Top 100 Prospects on AFL rosters. Last year, there were nine such players on AFL initial rosters. There were 14 Top 100 Prospects on the 2022 rosters and 10 in 2021.
The talent is not evenly distributed. The Peoria Javelinas are particularly loaded, with five of the 13 Top 100 Prospects, including three of the four highest-ranked prospects. The Scottsdale Scorpions have the second-most with three, while the Mesa Solar Sox and Surprise Saguaros have two and the Glendale Desert Dogs have one.
The Salt River Rafters do not have any Top 100 Prospects. They do, however, have 13 players who ranked on team Top 30 Prospects lists, including a pair of Diamondbacks prospects in infielder Tommy Troy (the team’s No. 4 prospect) and lefthander Yu-Min Lin (No. 9).
