High School Player Spotlight: Jordan Butler
Baseball America and Triple Crown Sports present our High School Player Spotlight. In this edition, Hudson Belinsky speaks with Jordan Butler.
Jordan Butler is one of the best high school pitchers in the nation. Having won gold medals with both the 15-and-under and 18U nationals teams in 2013 and 2015, Butler has as much high-level pitching experience in the country. Last summer, Butler served as a sort of relief ace for the 18U national team at the 2015 World Baseball-Softball Confederation World Cup in Japan. There, Butler struck out 16 batters and walked one and allowed just one hit over 9 1/3 innings. He didn’t allow a single run.
The lefthander, who is committed to play college baseball at Florida, throws from a deceptive, sidearm slot. His fastball has typically sat at 86-89 mph and has touched the low 90s at times this summer. His primary offspeed pitch is his slider, which shows late horizontal break when it’s working well for him.
In this video, Butler talks about his decision to commit to Florida, his earliest baseball memories and breaks down his effectiveness as a pitcher.
