High School Baseball Rankings Top 25 (3/20/18)
The top 25 teams are selected through a poll of representatives from the Baseball Coaches Association (BCA) and Baseball America. This is the second in-season top 25 ranking of the 2018 season. Many states are well underway at this point, though many schools in the northern part of the country have yet to begin and will start playing at some point this week or in coming weeks. The BCA and BA will update the top 25 rankings every other week through May.
Some solidity has come to the top of the high school top 25 rankings this week after a large amount of movement during the first in-season update on March 6. The Baseball America High School Top 25 is powered by DeMarini.
Each of the top three teams has remained in their spots, led Notre Dame High (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) which has gone 4-0 since becoming the top team in the country two weeks ago, including a three-game sweep of St. Francis (La Canada, Calif.) High by a 23-11 margin. The former high school of 2017 No. 2 overall draft pick Hunter Greene leads a six-team contingent of California clubs in the top 25, which is more than any other state in the country.
Lake Travis (Austin) High comes in at No. 2 with a 16-0 and remains the only Texas team in the top 25. Basic (Henderson, Nev.) High retained its No. 3 spot after going 5-0 last week and winning the Arizona Boras Classic in Phoenix, beating No. 19 Coronado (Henderson, Nev.) High, 9-4, in the championship game.
No. 4 Blessed Trinity (Roswell, Ga.) High took advantage of American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) High’s first loss of the season and moved up two spots to become the top team in the southeast region of the country. American Heritage dropped to No. 13 and will have ample opportunity to move back into the top 10 as a strong club with one lone blemish on its record.
The biggest risers this week are No. 5 Sam Houston (Lake Charles, La.) High and No. 6 Calvary Christian (Clearwater, Fla.) High. Both teams jumped from outside the top 25 into the top of the list after flawless starts to the season. Sam Houston has outscored opponents 100-16 including five shutouts, while Calvary Christian has won 42 consecutive games through multiple seasons after a 30-0 campaign in 2017 and a 12-0 start to the 2018 season.
