Groome, Mondile Set To Battle For Charity
Jason Groome and Tyler Mondile have been household names in the New Jersey baseball scene for quite some time, and at 7 p.m. Eastern on May 16, the two touted arms will face off at Campbell’s Field, the former home of the Camden Riversharks.
Proceeds from the matchup between the Barnegat (N.J.) High and Gloucester Catholic (Gloucester City, N.J.) aces will be donated charities chosen by Groome and Mondile.
Each prospect will play for a different cause. Tickets to the game cost $5 and sponsors will make donations based on the number of strikeouts each player accumulates.
Groome, the No. 3 prospect in our latest draft rankings, will play for the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. In a recent interview, Groome expressed interest in working with kids. When asked what he would do if he wasn’t a baseball player, Groome said he’d like to be a teacher.
Mondile will play for 15-year-old Kari Jenkinson, a student-athlete at Audobon (N.J.) High who is battling brain cancer. Mondile was in consideration for the top 100 but did not make the rankings.
