Grizzlies Mascot To Perform Wedding Ceremonies On Thursday

This Thursday, for the low price of $20, you can have a bear officiate your wedding.

OK, so the bear isn’t real, but the marriage will be legal and binding. The Fresno Grizzlies, the Astros’ Triple-A club in the Pacific Coast League, have made their mascot, Parker T. Bear, an ordained minister. As part of their “Big Fat Fresno Wedding” night at the ballpark, the team’s mascot will perform wedding ceremonies for any and all couples willing.

Beyond the $20 fee (which covers two tickets to the game), a couple must only produce a valid marriage license for Parker to officiate their wedding.

“People get married without a big wedding all the time, we’re just providing the most colorful backdrop for it,” Grizzlies marketing director Sam Hansen said. “Getting hitched by Parker at a Grizzlies game will be a memory that lasts a lifetime.”

If you and your special someone do decide to go for a mascot-officiated wedding, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to get all the accoutrements for the occasion at Chukchansi Park. The team will line the concourse with wedding-themed vendors, including florists, dressmakers and DJs.

Years from now, a few lucky couples will be able to tell their children that their marriage was performed by a giant, anthropomorphic bear. And isn’t that the greatest wedding gift of all?
