Gleyber Torres, Josh Staumont Chosen As AFL Players Of Week
The Yankees’ Gleyber Torres and Royals righthander Josh Staumont were chosen as Arizona Fall League players of the week.
Torres, 19, was acquired from the NL champion Cubs in July along with three others for closer Aroldis Chapman. He hit .667 this week with a double, homer and two RBIs and overall is slashing .429/.520/.810 and has 17 total bases.
The hard-throwing Staumont, 22, is 2-0, 0.87 in three Fall League appearances. He has struck out 11 and walked four in 10.1 innings, allowing five hits. He is third in the AFL in opponent average at .135.
Staumont has easy, premium velocity but has issues with command. He has averaged 7.5 walks per nine innings in his pro career.
