Fall Stars Game Rosters Dotted With Top 100 Prospects

The Arizona Fall League’s annual Fall Stars Game is this weekend, and the rosters feature plenty of Top 100 Prospects. This year’s version will be played Sunday, Nov. 5, at 8 p.m. EST, at Mesa’s Sloan Park and will be broadcast on MLB Network.

The entirety of the Top 100 talent can be found on the American League roster. That group includes White Sox shortstop Colson Montgomery (14), Rays shortstop Carson Williams (22), Guardians prospects Kyle Manzardo (58) and Chase DeLauter (90), Mariners first baseman Tyler Locklear (91) and Tigers infielder Jace Jung (97).

Beyond his status on the Top 100, DeLauter also paces the AFL with 23 RBIs, just ahead of fellow Fall Stars like Cubs outfielder Kevin Alcantara (22), Montgomery (21), Brewers first baseman Wes Clarke (19) and Blue Jays outfielder Will Robertson (19).

The AL’s roster also features one of the two Twins prospects who currently lead the AFL in home runs. Kala’i Rosario has seven longballs this fall, a total that accounts for nearly half of his 15 hits. Alcantara, Clarke and Manzardo each have five apiece.

One of the biggest surprises up the fall has been Rangers catcher Liam Hicks, who leads the league in batting average (.452) and on-base percentage (.558). If he can maintain his average, the mark will place second all-time in the AFL, behind only Ken Harvey, who hit .472 in 2003. Hicks’ big fall was highlighted by a six-hit game, the first in the league since 2009.

That cluster of high-end hitting talent in the AL will be met by some interesting arms from the Senior Circuit. Padres righthander Braden Nett is a candidate for the most eyebrow-raising pitcher of the fall after spending the first month showcasing a four-pitch package of high-end stuff.

The 2022 undrafted free agent has struck out 21 hitters in 17.1 innings across five appearances, four of which were starts.

The NL also has a pack of talented hitters dotting its roster. At the forefront of that group is Padres outfielder Jakob Marsee, whose name can be found on the AFL’s leaderboard in all three triple-slash categories as well as the top spot for doubles (10) and extra-base hits (15).

He’s backed by Cubs prospect James Triantos, who has torn up the circuit all fall and will get a chance to play at his spring training home on national television. The 20-year-old Triantos entered the fall as one of the league’s 10 youngest players and has quickly established himself as one of its top performers.

Triantos’ batting line places him in the top two of all three triple-slash categories, and he also leads the league in OPS (1.231), hits (32) and triples (5). His quintet of three-baggers is the most in the AFL since 2017.
