Eduardo Jimenez Suspended 30 Days Stemming From Dayton Brawl

Low Class A West Michigan righthander Eduardo Jimenez was suspended 30 days for throwing a ball that struck Dayton pitcher Jesse Stallings during a benches-clearing brawl between the teams Sunday.

The Midwest League does not announce suspensions, but a team official confirmed the suspension as 30 days, not 30 games as had been reported elsewhere.

The brawl began when Dayton’s Jose Siri stole second base. Siri and West Michigan shortstop Daniel Pinero got tangled up for the play and it appeared Pinero stepped on Siri’s leg with his right foot, spiking him. Siri took offense and immediately went after Pinero, starting the brawl. In the middle of that brawl Jimenez fired a ball that struck Stallings.

Pinero was suspended five games, starting Friday, and Siri got a three-game suspension. Also suspended were West Michigan righthander Spenser Watkins (one game) and Dayton lefthander Wennigton Romero (four games).
