Delmon Young Faces Battery Charge
Free agent outfielder Delmon Young, the No. 1 pick in the 2003 draft, was arrested and faces a battery charge after he allegedly choked and threatened to kill a valet attendant at the Viceroy hotel in Miami on Sunday.
According to a Miami police report, Young, 30, grabbed a valet attendant by the neck and started to choke him after the attendant refused to let him into an elevator to a club at the hotel.
Young allegedly used anti-Cuban slurs both at the hotel and again when police went to his condominium. According to BA correspondent Roch Kubatko of MASN.com, Young reportedly became irritated and told an officer, “I’ll slap you in the face with money, you (expletive) Cuban.”
Police charged him with one count of battery and Young was released on bond Monday afternoon.
In 2012, Young, while playing for the Tigers and in New York for a series against the Yankees, was arrested outside a New York City hotel after getting into a fight during which he allegedly yelled anti-Semitic slurs. He pleaded guilty and was ordered to perform 10 hours of community service.
