Dawel Lugo, Jared Miller Take AFL Weekly Honor
Dawel Lugo and Jared Miller, two Diamondbacks prospects, were named as Arizona Fall League players of the week on Tuesday.
Lugo, 21, hit .467 last week with a home run, two doubles and four RBIs. Overall, he’s hitting .303/.294/.409—he hasn’t walked, so his on-base percentage is lower than his batting average. Lugo, acquired in August 2015 from Toronto for Cliff Pennington, got in better shape and had a terrific offensive season, slashing .311/.339/.492 with 17 homers at high Class A and Double-A.
Miller, a 6-foot-7 lefthander who was an 11th-round pick from Vanderbilt, was 1-0, 0.00 in seven appearances in relief for Salt River. He is tied for the AFL lead with 24 strikeouts and leads the league in WHIP (0.38) and opponent average (.093). Miller’s fastball sits 93 mph and plays up because of his size and extension, but his slider can be a wipeout pitch at times, an offering with depth at 81-83 mph.
