Dave Roberts Wins NL Manager Of The Year

Dave Roberts, who led the Dodgers to the NL West title in his first year on the job, won NL Manager of the Year as voted upon by the Baseball Writers Association of America.
Roberts is the first Dodgers manager to win the award since Tommy Lasorda in 1988. Roberts, who played 10 years in the majors, including three with the Dodgers, replaced Don Mattingly, who left to manage the Marlins.
“I think the players saw the authenticity in me,” Roberts said during a conference call with reporters. “You always want to remember what it’s like to be a player.”
A first-year manager has won a Manager of the Year award three years running; Matt Williams in 2014 with the Nationals and the Rangers’ Jeff Banister (2015) preceded Roberts.
Roberts got 16 first-place votes to outpoll the Cubs’ Joe Maddon and the Nationals’ Dusty Baker, who finished third.
