Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll is Baseball America’s 2023 MLB Rookie of the Year, becoming the second D-backs player to win the award.
Carroll, 23, turned in a historic season, hitting .287/.362/.509 with 25 homers, 52 steals and 10 triples through 153 games. He became the first player in MLB history to record at least 10 triples, 25 homers and 50 steals in a season. He’s only the ninth player to ever record a 20-50 season, joining the likes of Barry Bonds, Rickey Henderson and Ronald Acuña Jr.
A Seattle native, Carroll’s season included an All-Star appearance in his hometown this summer. He propelled the D-backs to the second National League wild card spot entering the final weekend of the regular season.
Corbin Carroll’s Mission
The D-backs outfielder chased ‘perfection’ amid a sensational rookie season.
Arizona drafted Carroll No. 16 overall in 2019 and he quickly ascended to the top of their organizational prospect rankings. He ranked as the No. 2 prospect in baseball entering 2023. Carroll earned praise for his exceptional bat-to-ball skills, plate discipline and elite athletic ability.
Carroll joins RHP Brandon Webb (2003) as the second D-backs rookie to win Baseball America’s annual award. Baseball America picks just one Rookie of the Year for all of Major League Baseball. The award is heavily weighted toward production in a player’s rookie season, while also taking future potential into consideration.
