College Top 25 (March 6)
Texas Christian went 3-0 in the Shriners Hospitals for Children College Classic in Houston and remains No. 1 in the Baseball America Top 25, powered by Louisville Slugger.
The Horned Frogs finished off a perfect 4-0 week with their second consecutive tournament championship in the Shriners College Classic, where they defeated three ranked opponents. TCU has been the No. 1 team in all four rankings in 2017.
Florida State and Florida remain second and third in the Top 25. Louisville and Oregon State round out the top five, earning their highest rankings of the season.
Beyond the top five, the Top 25 saw some significant movement following a week when nine teams in last week’s rankings played at least one game against a Top 25 opponent. Arizona is the biggest climber, with Clemson, Stanford and Texas Tech also leaping up the rankings.
Two new teams enter the Top 25 this week. St. John’s enters at No. 22, followed by Baylor at No. 24. For both programs, it is their first time in the Top 25 since the final 2012 rankings. Baylor finished that season at No. 10, while St. John’s was No. 15. The Johnnies are off to their best start since 1981 when future big leaguers John Franco and Frank Viola were on the roster.
Falling out of the Top 25 are Vanderbilt and UC Santa Barbara. Both lost weekend series, with the Commodores dropping their second weekend set of the young season.
The Atlantic Coast Conference leads all conferences with seven representatives. The Southeastern Conference has five teams in the rankings.
The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through March 5 and do not include ties.
