College Top 25 (April 4)
After an emphatic 4-0 week with a win against rival Florida State and a sweep against Texas A&M, Florida returns to the top spot of the Baseball America Top 25, powered by Louisville Slugger.
Florida had been the top-ranked team since the Preseason Top 25 until last week, when it fell behind Texas A&M. But the Gators became the first team to win a series against the Aggies, and move back to the top of the rankings as a result.
Miami, which has won three straight series against Top 25 opponents, moves to No. 2, while Texas A&M falls to No. 3. Louisville and Mississippi State again round out the top five this week.
Florida Atlantic is the biggest mover in this week’s rankings, jumping from No. 25 to No. 18 after a sweep at Old Dominion. UC Santa Barbara also made a big jump, moving from No. 18 to No. 12 following a series win at Long Beach State to open Big West Conference play.
Four new teams enter the Top 25 this week. Clemson and East Carolina re-enter the rankings at Nos. 21 and 22. Texas Tech follows at No. 23 and Rice rounds out the Top 25. For Texas Tech, the Big 12 Conference leader, it is the first time in the Top 25 since April 20, 2015. Rice last was in the rankings May 18, 2015.
The Southeastern Conference leads all conferences with eight representatives, including five in the top 10. The Atlantic Coast Conference has five teams in the rankings.
Falling out of the Top 25 are Virginia, Alabama, Arkansas and Georgia Tech. All had losing weekends.
The staff of Baseball America determines the Top 25 rankings. Records indicated are through April 3 and do not include ties.
