What Is Your Career Highlight?
Getting to call a game with my father in 2007. It was a year before he died. I’m glad we were able to get that done.
What Unseen Parts Of The Job Do You Feel People Should Know About?
During the offseason I am a salesman. That is just as important as me calling the games. Without that, my contribution to the organization would be limited at best. You have to bring money to the organization at the minor league level if you hope to be a full-time employee. Without it, you will be relegated to seasonal work for the most part.
What’s Your Best Story From The Road?
In 2008, we took two buses on a long trip from Charleston, W.V. back to Rome, Ga. With about an hour to go, the brakes on the first bus (which I was not on) went out. We were behind the first bus and noticed it was running stop signs and red lights and were wondering what was going on.
Fortunately, it was late at night and it was a rural road with no one on it. After about 10 minutes, the driver of the first bus found a slight incline and was able to slow the bus to a stop. Everyone was OK, but it was scary for those 10 minutes. We piled all the equipment and people onto the remaining bus and drove the final hour or so back home in one piece.
