Reds’ Julian Aguiar To Miss 2025 Season After Elbow Surgery

Reds righthander Julian Aguiar made his MLB debut on Aug. 19, but his 2024 season ended a couple of weeks early as he was placed on the injured list in late September with an elbow sprain. Although it was initially reported that Aguiar will have Tommy John surgery, MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon now reports that Aguiar will seek a second opinion on his elbow injury before making a decision. Aguiar is one of the Reds top pitching prospects–he currently ranks No. 9 on the Reds’ Top 30 Prospects list. He becomes yet addition to a rough year for pitching injuries for the Reds. Lefthander Brandon Williamson will also miss 2025 because of Tommy John surgery. Righthander Graham Ashcraft missed the second half of the season with an elbow sprain and righthander Ty Floyd, the team’s second pick in the 2023 draft, missed the 2024 season because of shoulder surgery.
