Rays Acquire Ty Cummings From Mariners To Complete Randy Arozarena Trade
This summer, the Mariners acquired outfielder Randy Arozarena from the Rays to bolster their potential playoff run. The package to acquire Arozarena was righthander Brody Hopkins, outfielder Aidan Smith and a player to be named later. Now, the deal is complete. The third player, as announced by Seattle on Oct. 4, is another righthander, Ty Cummings. The Campbell alum did not rank on the Mariners’ Top 30, but ranked second in the Northwest League in strikeouts (124) and ERA (4.17). Cummings was a slider monster in 2024, throwing the pitch more often than any other offering in his arsenal. He backed it with four- and two-seam fastballs that sat in the 92-93 mph range as well as a changeup, curveball and occasional cutter.
