JJ Wetherholt Triples As Palm Beach Wins FSL Title

Shortstop JJ Wetherholt hit his first triple as a pro on Wednesday, driving in the deciding runs in the Palm Beach Cardinals’ 6-4 win over Lakeland in the deciding game of the Florida State League championship series. Palm Beach was tied 3-3 entering the seventh inning. The first two batters of the inning reached, but Palm Beach reliever Garrett Apker retired the next two batters. Bryce Madron’s RBI double gave Palm Beach the lead, and Wetherholt followed with a two-run triple to pad the lead. That proved crucial as Jack Penney led off the top of the eight by homering for Lakeland, but that was the end of all scoring, as the Cardinals hung on for the title. Wetherholt hit .421/.522/.684 during the postseason.
