James Wood Homers Twice In Four-Hit Game

Nationals top prospect James Wood continues to push his way toward a callup to the major leagues, as the gargantuan outfielder slugged a pair of home runs Thursday afternoon. Wood had four hits on the day before the game was called due to rain. After striking out against Ricky Tiedemann in his first at-bat, Wood struck revenge in his second at bat as he pummeled an 82 mph slider from Tiedemann 403 feet to right field. Wood followed in his next two at bats with a 108 mph single and a 111.9 mph double. In Wood’s final at-bat before the game was called in the eighth due to rain, he took a Hagen Danner 96 mph fastball on the outer half 425 feet to center field. Wood hit four balls in play on Thursday afternoon at 106.8 mph or above, including three batted ball events above 108 mph.
