Drew Gilbert Goes Deep Twice For Scottsdale

A day after making history as the first player to initiate and win a checked-swing review, Mets prospect Drew Gilbert made a different kind of impact. The former Astros prospect, who was dealt to New York in the summer of 2023 in the deal which sent Justin Verlander to Queens, cracked a pair of home runs in Scottsdale’s narrow loss to Peoria. The outfielder also added a single as part of a 3-for-4 day. Gilbert’s longballs came in the fifth inning off of Brewers righthander Nick Merkel and in the ninth off of Marlins lefty Justin Storm. Both blasts were two-run shots.
