THE LINEUP

Newsmakers from Saturday’s action:

Adrian Morejon, LHP, Padres. With Fort Wayne’s season on the line, Morejon fell flat. The lefty gave up six runs in just 1.2 innings as Quad Cities hammered from his first to his last pitch. The lefty’s stuff has tailed off as the season has worn on. For 2018, he has to continue to develop the strength and stamina to allow him to maintain his at times premium arsenal with more consistency.

Sal Romano, RHP, Reds. Among the wave of young Reds pitchers who have joined the big league rotation, Romano is one whose arrow has pointed up in the final weeks of the season. Romano has a 1.45 in three big league starts this month. Yesterday’s was easily his best start as a big leaguer. He threw eight scoreless innings, walking no one while striking out six.

Austin Hays, OF, Orioles. Hays had his first big game as a big leaguer. The 2016 draftee went 2-for-3 with a home run, a walk and two runs scored.

Sheldon Neuse, 3B, Athletics. Neuse homered, walked twice and drove in three runs to help Midland force a deciding Game 5 in the Texas League championship series.

Yadier Alvarez, RHP, Dodgers. Alvarez had a chance to pitch Tulsa to a title, but instead, he struggled as Tulsa and Midland will now play a winner-takes-all Game 5. Alvarez struck out only while allowing four runs (three earned) in 4.2 innings.
