Newsmakers from Thursday’s action:

Cornelius Randolph, OF, Phillies. The Phillies have taken hit-first outfielders in the first round in three consecutive drafts. Randolph is the hitter that started the trend. He’s struggled at the plate in the Arizona Fall League, but he did finish strong, going 3-for-4 with a double in the final regular season game of the AFL season. Randolph finished with a .239/.308/.324 slash line.

Braxton Lee, OF, Marlins. A pickup in the trade that Adeiny Hechavarria to the Rays last year, Lee can hit, can run and can play center field. That gives him a pretty clear path to at least a backup role in the big leagues, and he did nothing to dampen those expectations in the AFL. Lee went 3-for-5 yesterday with a pair of steals. He finished the AFL season hitting .347/.398/.400 with eight steals.

Eric Filia, OF, Mariners. Filia is the AFL batting champ. He went 2-for-3 yesterday raising his final stat line to .408/.483/.605. Ronald Acuna’s .639 slugging percentage is the only thing that kept Filia from a sabermetric triple crown.
