Feigl Looks To Make A Name Of His Own In The AFL

There is more to Brady Feigl than just his name. He has also flashed the promise to earn a job in the Arizona Fall League. 

Feigl drew national attention last year because he shares the same unusual name as Rangers prospect Brady Feigl. The A’s Feigl was a fifth-round draft pick out of Mississippi in 2018, while the Rangers’ Feigl signed as an undrafted free  agent with the Braves in 2013 and was later traded to Texas. 

The A’s Feigl who is getting his shot in Arizona, and started off with three scoreless innings in relief. He spent the regular season in the rotation for high Class A Stockton, but the A’s wanted him to add a few more innings out of the bullpen in the AFL. 

“He pitched 135 innings and didn’t miss a start,” A’s pitching coordinator Gil Patterson said. “Last year, he pitched 125, and we like to add about 30 innings a year.”

Feigl went 5-11, 4.42 with a 1.36 WHIP for Stockton in his first full professional season. He walked 35 and struck out 119, showing enough promise to intrigue the A’s. 

His four-seam fastball ranks about average, usually in the 90-92 range with some movement. He makes it more effective by changing speeds to confound hitters. He can add more movement when he throws his two-seamer as well.

Feigl’s best pitch is a slider that Patterson grades as plus. He is working to improve his changeup, which now grades a little below average. Patterson believes the mix is sufficient, and that Feigl will return to a starting rotation next year. The 23-year-old stands 6-foot-4, and pitches with good downward angle.

“He is a professional on and off the field,” Patterson said. “He comes to work ready for business. The art of pitching is fun for him. He’s prepared, and he’s wonderful to work with. These are great attributes for a pitcher.”

Feigl began his AFL season by striking out four hitters in his first four innings.
