The regular minor league season is winding down, but the Arizona Fall League is in the offing. The league announced its 2024 schedule on Wednesday, with a bit of a new look from years past.
Opening Day is Monday, Oct. 7 and the regular season continues until Nov. 14. The play-in semifinal, to be held at Scottsdale Stadium, will take place on Nov. 15. The championship game will be played the next day at Salt River Fields.
The most obvious change is that Sundays are no longer league-wide off days. Instead, one game will be played on four of the five Sundays during the AFL’s six-week slate. The final Sunday, Nov. 10, is a universal off day.
There are just two full off days during the entirety of the season: Monday, Oct. 21 and the aforementioned Nov. 10.
The AFL’s home run derby and Fall Stars Game will be played on Nov. 8 and 9, respectively, at Sloan Park in Mesa.
The league will also have more ballparks in the mix. The traditional six stadiums—Peoria Stadium, Sloan Park, Salt River Fields, Scottsdale Stadium, Camelback Ranch and Surprise Stadium—will all be in use, but there will also be several games played at Goodyear Ball Park, the spring home of the Guardians and Reds.
Goodyear will host a tripleheader featuring all three of that day’s AFL matchups. It will also host single games on the first three Thursdays of the season.
American Family Fields in Maryvale, the spring home of the Brewers, will be the site for two of the three games—Scottsdale vs. Surprise and Salt River vs. Peoria—on Saturday, Oct. 26.
The league will announce rosters at a later date.
Here are the 2024 team assignments, comprised of prospects from the following organizations:
Glendale Desert Dogs: Cardinals, Dodgers, Phillies, Reds, White Sox
Mesa Solar Sox: Angels, Athletics, Cubs, Rays, Red Sox
Peoria Javelinas: Braves, Brewers, Mariners, Marlins, Padres
Salt River Rafters: D-backs, Nationals, Rockies, Twins, Yankees
Scottsdale Scorpions: Blue Jays, Giants, Mets, Pirates, Tigers
Surprise Saguaros: Astros, Guardians, Orioles, Rangers, Royals
